I started this series last year so that I could post various digital photographs from my visits to Saskatchewan, photographs that include colours and images that are typical of my favourite Province.
We returned from North Battleford today after attending last night's launch of Inspired by the Land. It was a fine day for driving and photographing: late fall colours, thousands of geese flying out to feed in stubble fields, and a temperature of 10C.
We drove from Edmonton to North Battleford this afternoon. It's late fall on the prairies. There's still a bit of harvesting to do as a result of snow and rain during the past two weeks.
Fall colours on the prairies are not as brilliant and showy as they are in eastern Canada or New England, but they are just as appealing.
Spotted Cow Press has recently published London: Photographs by Jerome Martin, an enhanced e-book which includes text and audio in addition to photographs. It is available on the Spotted Cow Press website as a free download.
I love paper photography books and will continue to publish on paper and online. However, publishing books electronically allows us to create more of them and to include audio and video as well as the option to search for key words. They are also inexpensive to produce.

Lewis Hyde said in the introduction to his book The Gift: Imagination and the Erotic Life of Property that '...works of art exist simultaneously in two " economies." a market economy and a gift economy. Only one of these is essential, however: a work of art can survive without the market, but where there is no gift there is no art.'
Thanks to my colleague Lu Ziola who designed this book with style and vision. She also designed Golden Prairie, the book about the town in which I lived as a young person.

Today is the last day of the 2009 festival. We attended a Kimmie Rhodes concert and four other sessions.

Sometimes a session just cooks. Michael Johnson, Lynn Miles, Gabe Rhodes. Joe Gracey and everyone else on Stage Four this afternoon were delighted with the music as was the audience.
The final main stage concert is continuing as I write this blog entry, but the sessions at the small stages (my favourites) are over for another year. Next year we'll gather again to hear old musical friends and new ones. I'm looking forward to it.
We spent the morning and afternoon at Stage Six at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival listening to musical storytellers, some well-known and some new to most of us. The festival features seven small stages and one large main stage.
The small stages usually feature three or four artists or groups in 60 or 90 minute concerts. Several years ago Steve Earle told us that in Nashville they call this a guitar pull, but here it's just a workshop or concert.
Most of the performers feature their own songs, but in one concert the groups finished by playing some of their favourite songs, songs written by other songwriters.
These photographs include some of the groups and individuals playing on Stage Six.

We are enjoying visiting and photographing Saskatchewan. This blog entry is the first of this year's Saskatchewan colour series.
We left Brantford, Ontario, this morning and travelled along the Grand River, stopping at several sites which are part of the story of Squire Davis and the Crazy River, including Ruthven. Ruthven Park was owned by the Thompson Family from the 1840s until 1993.
This is one of the most peaceful and beautiful areas in Canada: but its history will surprise you.
