Spring has arrived, and although some snow still remains from the storm last week I’m loading several cameras with film and looking forward to travelling and photographing. I’m also looking forward to printing for two new exhibitions later this year.
This is the first in a series of blog entries which will include photographs that I have made but have not published or exhibited. Instead, they have resided patiently as negatives, contact sheets, and prints, waiting for the opportunity to be seen by someone other than me.
I seldom include captions or information on photographs; I prefer to have viewers see them as photographs rather than illustrations. Stephen Shore said ‘An illustration is aiming the camera at the direction of some content, while the photograph is making some sense of it.'
The photographer Aaron Siskind said ‘As the language or vocabulary of photography has been extended the emphasis of meaning has shifted from what the world looks like to what we feel about the world and what we want the world to mean.’
I hope that you enjoy this series of photographs.
